10 Simple Habits for a Fresh Start This Spring
Spring whispers renewal - a season where nature blooms anew, inviting us to shed winter’s weight and step into fresh beginnings. At GrowWell Living, we’ve explored the why behind a spring reset: a chance to realign mind, body, and spirit with God’s rhythm of growth (see “The Power of a Spring Reset” on our blog). Now, let’s dive into the how. You don’t need a grand overhaul to embrace this season - just small, intentional habits that root you in renewal. Pair these 10 simple practices with our Spring Reset Toolkit, and watch your fresh start take shape, one day at a time.
1. Begin Your Day with God
Instead of diving into the day’s chaos or scrolling social media, start with stillness and scripture.
✅ Try This:
- Read one verse each morning and reflect on it (e.g., Psalm 5:3: “In the morning, Lord, you hear my voice”).
- Offer a gratitude prayer before your feet hit the floor.
- Use our Spring Reset Toolkit to jot down your morning reflections.
NB: I've mentioned this before, but throughtheword.org has really been such a great tool for guiding our devotional time in the morning.
2. Refresh Your Home with a 10-Minute Declutter
A peaceful space fosters a peaceful mind. Set a timer and tackle one small area daily - your nightstand, a drawer, or your desk.
✅ Try This:
- Donate unused items, embracing stewardship (2 Corinthians 9:7). I usually donate to the hospice nearest to us to sell at their shop. They do such amazing work.
- Create a sacred corner for prayer or reflection, adorned with a plant or soft light.
3. Drink Living Water (Literally & Spiritually)
Physical hydration and spiritual nourishment go hand in hand (John 4:14).
✅ Try This:
- Kick off your morning with a hydrating drink. We start ours with a glass of sugar free electrolytes.
- Reflect on John 7:38: “Rivers of living water will flow from within them.”
4. Set Digital Boundaries with a “Screen-Free Hour”
Screen overload drowns out stillness. Carve out one screen-free hour daily - a habit to quiet the noise winter left behind.
✅ Try This:
- Swap phone time for prayer or scripture (Psalm 46:10: “Be still, and know that I am God”). Or find your favorite place and just be still. And start with five minutes if an hour seems daunting
- Use a physical Bible for a richer, distraction-free experience.
5. Shift Your Mindset with Gratitude
Gratitude and being thankful turns worry into worship (1 Thessalonians 5:18).
✅ Try This:
- Jot down three blessings daily in a journal - grab our Spring Reset Toolkit to start your list.
- Close your day by thanking God for one joyful moment.
6. Dress with Purpose & Confidence
What you wear shapes how you feel (Proverbs 31:25: “She is clothed with strength and dignity”). Spring’s a perfect time to simplify your wardrobe.
✅ Try This:
- Adopt the “1 in, 1 out” rule: donate an item for every new piece. You'll find out that you don't actually need a larger closet!
- Choose comfy, confident staples- like our minimalist LookWell Tees and sweatshirts.
7. Move Your Body as a Form of Worship
Your body’s a temple (1 Corinthians 6:19) - treat it with joy, not obligation.
✅ Try This:
- Try a prayer walk. Pair movement with worship music.
- Stretch for 5 minutes each morning, praising God for your strength.
NB: I know this seems easier than done, especially when you are struggling with your mental health. But try and push your way through the barrier...it's worth it!
8. Build a Sunday Reset Ritual
Ease into the week with a Sunday reset that blends spiritual and practical prep.
✅ Try This:
- Plan your week with prayer (Proverbs 16:3: “Commit to the Lord whatever you do”).
- Meal prep or set small goals to start Monday strong.
- Try and get into bed early so that you can wakeup refreshed, hopefully!
9. Start a Spring Scripture Challenge
Deepen your faith with renewal-themed verses this season.
✅ Try This:
- Focus on one verse or Chapter weekly (e.g., Isaiah 40:31: “They will soar on wings like eagles”).
- Ask your friends to join (you can support each other via a WhatsApp group) or join your church's weekly home meetings.
- This is when throughtheword.org platform comes in so handy.
10. Practice Daily Kindness & Encouragement
Blessing others refreshes your spirit too (Proverbs 11:25: “Whoever refreshes others will be refreshed”). Being nice to someone can make their day as well!
✅ Try This:
- Send an encouraging note or text to someone.
- Do one small kind act daily - help a neighbor or uplift a stranger online.
